“YG Family” is a term of endearment used for everyone that is under YG Entertainment. The referenced term not only relates to their promotional acts as one but also choreographers, composers, stylists, managers etc.

Today, when people talk about the “Big Three” record companies in SK. YG Entertainment is continuously mentioned alongside of SM and JYP Entertainment for they are known being a part of that title. YG has been growing at a massive pace in their later years from various collaborations for business ventures in clothing, makeup etc. They have also formed mergers to grow their areas of expertise in other areas such as acting, modelling etc. YG has so far also managed to garner massive investments due to their steady climb from a big name like LMVH that owns companies like Dior, Louis Vuitton etc.
YG entertainment at present consists of a various different types of artists with different areas of expertise. You have individual acts like PSY and soulful singer Lee Hi to idol group BIGBANG to popular indie duo Akdong Musician etc.

"Yang Goon" Founder
YG Entertainment was founded by Yang Hyun Suk, who went by the nickname “Yang Goon” henceforth naming the entertainment agency “YG” on February 24th of 1996. He started as the CEO of YG then but has since moved on to being the chief producer & Co-Ceo in title only of YG. In order to have sole focus on his musical acts he left the reigns of the business and growth to his brother Yang Min-Suk who is the current CEO.
The agencies main focus was to bring out hip hop to the mainstream of the Korean Music market in its early days. The establishment began to show growth with versatile acts like Wheesung and Se7en who were mainly singers in the early 2000’s. Their major breakthrough was when they focused on creating an hip-hop based idol group that was named Big Bang that helped boost them up as a label record immensely.
The company became an officially public trading company in November of 2011.
